Long Weekend, Long Update!

Well lucky readers, after months and months of hiatus from contributing to this blog, I'm finally free enough to add my own two cents or so. That's right, you guessed it (no, it's not Cayden), it's me, Matthew. As you can see above, Cayden has been busy enough making new "friends". Here we see him fraternizing with an older woman. We'll see if this kind of behavior continues as he gets older. And yes, this past weekend was a long one for the De Haan family. Not long in terms of unexciting, but long in duration and in the number of activities. On Saturday, we celebrated Matthew Hoekstra's graduation from Physical Therapy School with a number of couples from our church and small group. On Sunday, we went to church and then drove out to Redlands, CA where Melissa and Cayden participated in a baby shower for our friend, Sabrina Foust. That evening, Luke and Sabrina broght Alyssa to our place and Cayden got to spend some quality time with a friend more his own age. On Memorial Day, we traveled to Redlands again where Sabrina's mom and dad were kind enough to watch Cayden and Alyssa, allowing Luke, Sabrina, Melissa and I to view the newest Indian Jones film. I won't go into detail about the movie as this is a blog about our family and not about reviewing movies. Let's just say I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

On Tuesday, we took Cayden on his longest car ride trip this side of Melissa's tummy. We traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to visit Cayden's Uncle Derek and Aunt Lindsey. They were there celebrating Lindsey's graduation from a Master's degree program in Social Work.
The pictures above were taken in front of the foutains at the Bellagio Hotel. Cayden got a real kick out all the lights and the fountains. He also got to know his Uncle Derek and Aunt Lindsey a bit better which was nice. After walking around Las Vegas on Tuesday evening, we spent the night and then took off again for home on Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunately for Cayden and Melissa and I, there was a big rig fire on Interstate 15 which turned our 3 hour car ride home into a 5 hour ride. Fortunately, we made it back before it go too late. Overall, it was a good weekend with friends and family. It was great to see so many people that we don't get to see as often as we would like. We also recieved confirmation this week that we will be able to baptize Cayden at our church on July 27 which we are very excited about. Finally and as always, for more pictures of this past weekend, check out our smugmug page. Thanks for stopping by. Later!

Cayden slept all the way through the night last night without waking up at all for his pacifire! What a great highlight for me as I actually got to sleep through the night as well! We will see if this continues . . . we will keep praying.

4 Month Appointment

Cayden had his 4 month doctor appointment this past Monday. He was perfectly healthy and we were both very proud with him as he had his shots. He cried really hard while he was getting his shots and then when they were over, he stopped! This wasn't too bad considering he had three different shots. He weighed 13 pounds 11.9 oz and was 26 inches. The circumference of his head was 16 inches. We are so thankful that God has blessed us with a healthy baby! He is such a great joy in our lives!!!!

4 Months Old and Sleeping Through the Night!?

So Cayden was 4 months old last week. It is hard to believe how quickly the months pass and my he is growing like crazy! It will be interesting having his doctor's appointment next week to see how much he weighs because I think he is getting heavy :)! So on this past Sunday Cayden spent his first church service in the nursery . . . so much better, I should have done it sooner. I could finally pay attention to the entire church service! Then on Sunday night Cayden slept all the way through the night-9:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.!!! I was so excited but didn't want to get my hopes up and good thing I didn't because it has only happened one other time (last night!). I am not feeding him during the night though as I know he can do it, so hopefully that will help him realize he doesn't need to wake up in the middle of the night anymore! Prayers are needed for that! Things have been a little bit quieter this week as Matthew started his summer semester and is finding that things have calmed down. So Cayden and I get to see him a lot more! Cayden and I have just been staying home the past couple of days after a busy week last week. It has been a nice break but we are now ready for more excitement :)! Have a good weekend!
