First Cereal

So we decided that since Cayden is still waking up around 4 am to eat that we would try to give him cereal for his last evening feeding to see if that makes him last those last couple of hours of the night. So for the first time last night we tried feeding it to him. As you can see from the above picture, he was not about it. He was literally spitting it out of his mouth . . . so he didn't actually consume any of the cereal and therefore was up to eat last night :)! Everything else seems to be going well. Matthew has about a week left for this semester and is busy as ever. He is a very balanced person though so we still see him in the evenings which is very nice. Unfortunately he has to do a quick turn around because he starts the summer turn the very next week. At least it is a lighter schedule and not as many classes. As for me, I am trying to stay busy while Cayden is taking his naps. I am getting more brave and trying new recipes. So far, so good! I have also been reading more which is a nice relaxing break from entertaining Cayden! Cayden is definitely becoming more aware of his surroundings so that is fun to watch as he becomes more alert and is developing his little personality!

A Wicked Weekend!

This past weekend my wonderful husband surprised me for my birthday by taking me out to dinner and then to see the musical "Wicked". For those of you who don't know what that musical is about, it is about the untold story of the wicked witch of the west. And let me tell you, it was soooo good! Matthew and I both agreed this was the best musical we have seen, so if you are around a city where they are showing it I highly recommend it. Janna and Troy were able to babysit Cayden which was a very nice break for me. The rest of the weekend was very relaxing which was good for both of us and for Cayden who was able to make it through his first church service this morning. It is hard to believe it has taken this long, but until this morning, Cayden had never made it through an entire church service without having to be fed or comforted. So it was nice to be able to enjoy an entire church service together. Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Cayden in his bouncer (it hangs from the doorway, pretty cool)!

Cayden finally discovered he has feet and loves to grab them!

Another LONG update!!

So once again I have failed at keeping our blog updated on a regular basis. The past week and a half have been packed full with family in town. So I will start from the beginning . . . On April 3, my cousin Kelli and her husband Mark Ten Haken flew to California to visit us. Kelli and Mark are good friends and roommates of ours from college. So after two years of not seeing each other we were able to do a lot of catching up. The first day we took them to Laguna Beach to see the tide pools. This was Cayden's first time at the beach and unfortunately after taking him there, he came down with his first cold :(. We spent the evening playing games and of course eating pizza.

The next day Kelli and I went and got some pedicures . . . very relaxing and this gave the boys some time to play good old Mario Kart. We met up with Janna and Troy (friends from college), Brett (my brother), and Caleb (our cousin) for dinner and afterwards some games. Since the weather did not cooperate in Azusa, we went and met my parents in Palm Springs where it was 85 degrees and sunny! We spent the afternoon swimming in the pool (Cayden's first time swimming) and relaxing in the sun.

Kelli, Mark, Matthew, Cayden, and Melissa in Palm Springs!

What are you doing to me?

I guess it is o.k.

Matthew being crazy!

Monday was a more laid back day as Matthew had to attend class again. Kelli and I did manage to get a walk in though, which was nice to have that time to catch up with her. We are thankful that they came and visited us, it was a lot of fun to see them again!
Tuesday morning my parents drove from Palm Springs to hang out here for the day to see Brett and pick Cayden and I up to go back with them to Palm Springs. Matthew joined us on Friday when he was done with work. The week was spent relaxing, relaxing, and more relaxing. My kind of vacation! We laid out by the pool everyday and took in some sun. I had time to catch up with my parents and my parents had time to be Grandpa and Grandma to Cayden (which they loved!)! We even got Cayden's three month pictures done while we were there so I am excited to get those back.

Grandma De Yager reading Cayden a story.

Cayden loved playing with the balloon with Grandpa De Yager!
Mom, Dad, Matthew, and Melissa, but wait where is Cayden? Oh yeah, he was sleeping in his car seat on the ground!

Here is an update on the new "tricks" Cayden is doing. He now rolls over all the time (from his back to his stomach) and complains when he is on his stomach. So we roll him back over and he does it all over again. Crazy kid! Just last night we were watching t.v. and Cayden started to roll over to his stomach, then back to his back, and then back to his stomach. We told him to just get up and walk if he was going to make that much progress in such a short amount of time :). He is definitely "talking" more to us and he smiles all of the time. Cayden has also started to grab at toys. He even managed to pull on a toy to get it to make music! He just keeps growing and developing his personality. We are so thankful to God for the wonderful gift he has given us. He continues to bless us each and everyday and I am amazed. What an awesome God we serve! What? I am 3 months old?

Yesterday marked Cayden's three month birthday! Yeah! The time has definitely gone by pretty quickly. As you can see, Cayden looks very concerned in this picture . . . not quite sure what is going on. You see every time we get him to smile and start to take the picture he looks at the camera very perplexed, thus it is hard for us to get pictures of him smiling! Oh well, we will still keep him :)!
